Sketch-A-Day #019
Meet Hershey.
This started out as a t-shirt idea for my father. I started thinking about the patterning again and camo came to mind. My dad loves camo. Then I just started duplicating. I think if I were to go with this design, I would have it silk screened on a pillow or on another material (metal or wood) so he could hang it somewhere. If I were to follow through on a t-shirt, I think I would loose the background and just print the larger portrait on a camo shirt.

Just some unrelated scribbles.
Most of the time I get caught up in big ideas/projects and forget to take the time to just let go. So I came up with Jack ( on the left) who wanted to be Frankenstein for Halloween but all he had was a safari hat. On the right is the State Puff Lego Man who is crushing a car. I’m not really sure where they lived in my brain, but the ended up on the paper.

I was running short on time this evening. I wasn’t able to attend my drawing class due to my day job and I have been trouble shooting my email problems during the time I had left for drawing. Never use an IMAP account!
This is something I did in preparation for a painting. Maybe by posting this solo sketch, it will inspire me to finish the painting. These manikin statues have always intrigued me though. I have the cat and dog manikins too, so maybe they will make an appearance at some point. We’ll see.

Last weekend I bought a book called “Over & Over: A Catalog of Hand-Drawn Patterns” by Mike Perry. It has some really cool stuff inside and inspired me to create a pattern of my own. So I just started drawing lines and shapes until I ended up with this.
I scanned it in and then duplicated and rotated it to create the texture below.
There is a nice contrast between the single image and the pattern. In the pattern image the negative shapes becomes the dominate elements and everything else is just value.
