This weekend I made some progress on a project I started at the beginning of the year. I didn’t get it finished like I had planned, but I as long as I get off work at a decent time tomorrow, I think I should be able to finish it up in the evening.
I tried something a little different this time around. I did a version all in gray scale first. Then I saved a copy and started making a color version. I’m still working through the color version.

Tonight we celebrated Brian’s birthday a day early. I have this weird feeling that I’m going to have to work late tomorrow and didn’t want to disappoint him. So I sort of surprised him instead. I brought home Hound Dogs Pizza, and a coffee crunch ice cream cake from Cold Stone Creamery.
LEGOs are one of Brian’s favorite things, so I have been wanting to draw Brian as a LEGO-MAN for awhile. I used these sketches as the basis of my birthday ideas and ended up going with an entire LEGO theme down to LEGO wrapping paper. (Sick, I know.)
I did 2 version of LEGO-Brian, one with a Nike hat and one without.

Last week was a busy week at work. With two 16-hour days, a trip to Philly and back, and a client presentation that left me feeling unsatisfied, I was exhausted every evening. Nothing, not even sketch-a-day, can keep me from my sleep.
I’m also finding that I’m spending what time I can on these sketches instead of working on bigger projects that I had plannedĀ in the beginning of the year. So, I will probably not post on a daily basis for awhile.
I spent this weekend working on part of Brian’s birthday present. Even though I finished it tonight, I can’t post it until Tuesday.
I wanted to post something since I have gone a week with posting anything. This is an illustration I did awhile back. Some of you have probably seen it, but I would love to get some feedback from those who haven’t.
This is a quilting granny bee.

Tonight was figuring drawing night. I didn’t produce anything that I was happy with. I couldn’t seem to focus tonight for several reasons (one of them being people who try and carry on conversations with everyone including the model while a pose is underway). WTF?
I was feeling pretty lousy about the session, so I went through my drawing pad as a reminder that I have done well in the past. Figure drawing is soooooo frustrating for me, but I do like challenging myself with it.
Here are a few pieces that made me want to keep pushing forward.

I haven’t been committed to the 12 AM deadline for the Sketch-A-Day challenge, but I have never been this late before.
We had our first game night – unplugged last night. Between cleaning, shopping for snacks, and playing games, I didn’t make time for a sketch.
I was, however, inspired by both of the board games that we played. They were both very process oriented yet so random at play. I created a pattern type piece for each game that reflects the rules, the play, and my emotions.
TICKET TO RIDE

The first game was called Ticket To Ride. It was a fairly friendly game where you try and build trains across certain destinations in the USA. We had 5 people playing so it was a little chaotic with everyone trying to claim their route before someone else did.
ROBO RALLY

The second game we played was called Robo Rally. This was a robot warfare with lasers, black holes, conveyor belts and a hallitzer equalling in damages, power downs, and death. Every one’s move effected your plan, usually for the worse. Not to mention, your plan was already partially pre-determined by a set of 9 cards, which you can choose only 5 to use, and the amount of damage points you have. Not only were you forced to be evil to each other, the board was the most evil of all.
Both of these games were great and our first game night was a success! I wonder what we will play at the next one.
