‘09 Holiday Card

2009holidaycard2

It has been a few years since I have sent out cards for the holiday season, so I decided it was time. This is the first draft. This was created digitally. I’m going to take this sketch and use it in a block printing technique to get a more handmade feel. I’ll post the that version, if it is successful, this weekend.

Sketch-A-Day #007

I’m usually not very political, but this idea came to mind today. This is my tribute to the Inauguration and the next four years. It turned out a little more detailed than I had intended. Once I started to add stuff in I liked the texture it was creating.

Black Birds

For those of you who know me, you know I’m usually not satisfied by a cookie-cutter, out of the box solution for anything. Well, it runs in the family. These photos are of a wedding cake topper my cousin asked me to create for her wedding.

I’m not a sculptor by any means. I mainly use my hands to guide the mouse on a computer, but I thought this would be a great challenge to take on. So I got some foil and some Sculpey and began experimenting. Every part of this piece is Sculpey (wrapped around foil); the reds, the black and the white are all clay. I used a high-gloss lacquer to finish it off.

I’m pretty happy with the results, and more importantly so is the bride, but I’m curious to know what others think. I’m interested in hearing from anyone, especially those who have experience with stuff like this. Please comment with constructive criticism, likes, dislikes, tips of the trade, and anything relevant (or unrelevant) that comes to mind.
